In all gravity there is some sense to the slippery slope when communications is involved, and it could be that we continually appropriate words and others fly or run them down**, depending on whether the basket has a balloon or a wheel.]

** earlier usage is heaven in a handbasket or head in a handbasket, or is it to keep up with the Jones? Note: I did not actually read all these sources completely, but enough to see that is seems that "heaven in a handbasket" is not yet really sourced, and possibly enough to note that a handbasket carried donations presumably to get one to heaven, while a wheelbarrow implies taking it with one. It also implies that a basket is swifter than a wheelbarrow and something about directions and works.
